TLC Press Release picked up by Yahoo News

Last night TLC issued our official press release on National Trichotillomania Awareness week and this morning I found that Yahoo News had picked it up. For the full text see First National Trichotillomania Awareness Week, October 1-8, 2006, Provides Help and Hope for Hair-Pullers but it starts out
To break the silence around trichotillomania (compulsive hair-pulling), a disorder that affects millions of Americans, the Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC) is pleased to announce All Join Hands, the first national trichotillomania awareness week, taking place October 1-8, 2006. Already, more than 60 communities around the country have scheduled events, including Minneapolis, Atlanta, New York, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Pittsburgh. Two states, Michigan and South Carolina, have issued State Proclamations honoring the event and urging citizens to learn more.

I've pulled my hair from the age of 9 or 10 and I am now 53. I still toss the strands into books, as I read, or on the floor, where I can reach them to hide them in the trash can, below the rest of the trash, so no one at knows that I'm doing it again. My husband is constantly reminding me to stop when he sees me pulling. My parents and sister had been aware of my hairpulling when I was a child.

I'm going bald again. HELP!

wow, I can hear your pain. My daughter is 17 and has had trich since she was 14. I used to keep reminding her to stop, but she couldn't help herself. She now wears a wig, so that is a big help. There are alot of beautiful wigs that they make custom that look like the real thing. Lots of luck to you!
